Vietnam was only part of the news. It was an era of Black Power, equal rights, and social wrongs.
Journey back to America’s most turbulent decade as a young woman tries to make her way in New York City.
A totally original story with such classic songs as “Downtown,” “Gimme Some Lovin’,” “Rescue Me,” and “I Know A Place,” plus dozens more, A SIGN OF THE TIMES explodes with the music you love and the spirit that shaped a generation—and our own.
HOW WE HEAL IS A SIGN OF THE TIMES. In the middle of the 1960s, a young photographer tries to make her way in the world as a new arrival in New York City, amid the chaos and divisions of that decade. What is remarkable about this show is that, as we are entertained with classic songs from that era, dazzling dance, and whirlwind romances…we are also constantly reminded of just HOW CLOSE the signs of those times reflect the signs of today. Whether it is Emmett Till or George Floyd, the Women’s Liberation Movement or the Me Too Movement, the Black Panthers or Black Lives Matter, the Vietnam War or Russia’s War in Ukraine or our own war on terrorism, WE LIVE IN A COMPLETELY PARALLEL TIME. And as we watch our musical – and our times – unfold, we not only see the mistakes, trials and tribulations of the past but, through the lens of Cindy’s camera, learn from them, finding both the hope and the promise of a new future, where we can all thrive, respect each other, and celebrate what connects us, rather than what divides!
